The impact of COVID-19 on the future of healthcare IT

COVID-19 spurred health IT innovation in ways previously unimaginable. In particular, patients adopted healthcare information technology that met them at home, in transit, at work -- anywhere but in a doctor’s office. This evolution is not going away; rather it is part of a larger societal trend towards mobile engagement. Providers and health systems will need to continue to adapt. Early in the pandemic, they adapted virtual care models. Providers learned to communicate with patients via chat, video, photo-uploads and texting. Into 2022 and beyond, the implementation, adoption and integration of digital and virtual care across different populations and use-cases will keep expanding.
